Canadian swimmers warm up in London
Canadian swimmers warm up here
London swimmers and armchair aquatics lovers will get a chance to meet the best in Canada when our Pan American Games team comes here to train as a final tune-up for the games.
A team led by two-time Olympic medal winner Ryan Cochrane will train July 7-11 at Western University and at Thames Park, where athletes will pose for photos with and sign autographs for fans. It will be their last stop before going to Toronto for the Pan Am Games — perhaps the first time London has been used as a staging ground for swimmers on their way to a major international event.
The swimmers, who also include world champion Hilary Caldwell, will be available to fans at about 10 a.m. either July 10 or 11 — that detail still needs to be worked out.
Their efforts at the Olympics typically cause a bump in the number of youth who enroll in competitive swimming and show current swimmers what’s possible. [email protected]
